Another good day today, a light crowd got about forty keepers or so plus on one drop we got about 60-70 of the biggest kind of porgies.

Angler highlights: Bob with his limit, Vinny with 3, Mickey with his limit, a few scup and a nice sea bass, willy Wayne with a few for once, Pete graybeard with a mess of porgies, a couple of blacks and the pool. I'm sure I'm leaving some people out and I'm sorry if It was you.

NOT A BAD DAY TODAY, JUST NOT A REALLY GOOD ONE EITHER, UNLESS YOU COUNT THE WEATHER WHICH WAS INCREDIBLE. THOSE OF U WHO KNOW ME KNOW I WEAR SHORTS AND SANDALS ALOT LATER IN THE YEAR THAN MOST PEOPLE SO YOU KNOW IT'S GOTTA BE NICE OUT IN NOVEMBER WHEN NOBODY LOOKS AT ME FUNNY.

HAD GREAT ACTION TODAY BUT THE KEEPERS WERE A LITTLE MORE ELUSIVE THAN THEY HAVE BEEN, U REALLY HAD TO WORK FOR THEM TODAY. CLAMSO MANAGED TO SQUEEK OUT A LIMIT SHOWING UP HIS BUDDY JACKSON WHO ONLY MANAGED ONE TODAY. KYLE HAD THREE INCLUDING THE POOL. A FEW PEOPLE WITH TWO AND MOST PEOPLE HAD ONE.
WEATHER LOOKS GREAT FOR TOMORROW, WE WILL SEE ABOUT THURSDAY

Made our first drop today and caught a few fish, went to head to the another spot and the stbd starter had taken a crap on us so we decided to head in and fix the problem.

Hated to do it, but if we put in the whole day and then couldn't get a part we needed because everywhere had closed it would of hurt alot more.

All is running again, we will be at it again in the morning.

Well I'm not sure if it was too nice out or the full boat jinx but after mostly good to very good fishing the last two weeks or so today we had a slow day.

Don't know why but just never found the drop that they were hungry today, just gonna have to re-group and get back out there tomorrow. The fish we did catch were mostly nice sized fish, just not enough of them.

Weather looks good the rest of the week

The day started out slow, just one on the first drop and things got better as the weather got nicer. Ended up with a solid day. Many limits on board with just under 70 keepers on the day.

Highlights include Billy Bucktail with 7 keepers, Danny, without Ponzo to distract him had a limit, Richards group of three with a limit each, one of which had 6 keepers and Jackson Winston Marlboro with six and the pool fish to boot. If I forgot to mention anyone else hopefully Amanda's post will include u.

Tuesday saw a slow bite during the early morning and picked up a little in the afternoon, but nothing to write home about. Today's trip was quite the opposite with fish flying over the rails. Headed out with a light crowd on a windy morning with the forecast for the wind to flop and they were actually right.

Made a couple of drops with a decent pick of keepers with a lot of short life. Almost had what we needed and made a move to a drop we were leaving alone and finished off our limit with loads of shorts mixed in and left them biting.

Darren led the way with at least 8 keepers, he lost count, ROL. Jack Winston Marlboro also got his without his buddy Clamso here to harass him. Noreaster Joefin honorable mention with 3 beauties.

Very good porgy fishing again today, most at or very close to limits of nice size porgies. Just over a week left in the bonus season. Didn't spend any time trying for blackfish specifically because the porgy fishing has been so good. High hooks were Dennis and Jack with over 40 fish, ORL. No spot was red hot but all the places we went produced some fish which by the end of the day added up to what we needed.

We will continue spending the bulk of our day porgy fishing during the bonus season with some blackfishing every day. As the water cools the blackfishing will improve, we will always have crabs on the boat and will usually make some drops specifically targeting blackfish most days conditions permitting. After the bonus season has ended then it will be blackfishing with some targeted porgy fishing.

Excellent fishing the last few trips:
Thursday night was one stop shopping once the storm blew past, high hook had close to thirty porgies on a short trip
Friday AM Amanda had the helm and put the boat on a mess of porgies, blues and even some striped and sea bass. High hooks had over forty fish easily between the blues and porgies, they were filleting right up until the 4:30 trip left.
Friday PM was one drop fishing, went right to where Amanda left them biting and they were still there, loads of large and jumbo porgies with a few blues and sea bass mixed in, high hooks having about 25 fish.

Seems like all the fall players are lining up for the season. Full day wreck and rock bottom fishing trips for porgies and blackfish kick off tomorrow sailing 7am to 3pm-ish, all bait and tackle included

Excellent fishing today, started out with a pick at the first couple drops during the hard flood tide and then switched to the jigs and caught all the blues we needed and went back to porgies with our next drop being our last. The porgies had the feed bag on heavy and were coming strong. Seems like the great fishing is here finally just in time for the fall run.

Kids needed a night off tonight so they sent the old man out. Couldn't ask for a prettier night. It was the kind of night you dream of all winter. Cool, light cloud covering and a light off shore breeze.
All out Porgy slaughter on the starboard side, difficult for people on the port side because the breeze held the boat perpendicular to the tidal currents. Crowded as many people as we could on the fish side and would like to give a special thanks to the people when reaching three time the limit (rol) gave up their place at the rail so kids from the other side could catch their limit.
All in all, it was the kind of night that reminds me why I love this business.

At 6:44 A.M. Today My phone rang. "Amanda sorry but were going to need you to come down we have a good crowd." I laid in bed for 30 more seconds clutching my

pillow thinking about all of my chores, laundry and errands that aren't going to get done again today before sprinting out the door to the boat.

43 keeper fluke later I was glad I got that phone call!

High hook was Tom of the long island sharks with 4 keepers (rol)

Honorable mention to Terri who landed 2 fish over 6 lbs making all the boys jealous! Mickey limited out with fish up to 5 lbs and had the pool fish for a good part of the trip. Eddy won with a 6lbs 7oz fish. Artie/Clyde keep his duck company with 2 nice slobs and missed the pool by just an ounce.

It was a great trip to work deck for a change and spend some quality time with really good people. I love seeing these local fluke just out side the front door.

Worked deck on last nights porgy trip for captain James. Slow start to the night with a pick of fish. Some people were able to get there limits other not as lucky BUT we didn't give up! Local fluke fishing was red hot today. A full boat of anglers produced over 600 shorts and 38 keepers.  The largest fish was 7 lbs 11oz caught by Paul Cabarea. He also had 4 keepers (rol) 22 inches, 22.5 inches, 24 inches, and 26 inches landing them all in size order!
Willy Nieves caught his first keeper ever, 7lbs and well worth the "weight" 9 year olds Graydon Holubar and Matthew Kelly had fish up to 5.7 lbs.
Runner up in the pool was Alex with a 7lb 5oz fish.  Larger fish have moved into local waters and they are hungry! Great action for the family. Sailing Monday-Friday 7-2 for fluke, 4:45pm for Porgies

Didn't due any fluking yesterday because we had a charter in the morning from Maryhaven that enjoyed great scup fishing on the morning trip

Then on our 4:45 trip started out jigging with some keepers and some shorts but they just didn't seem to want to bite so after a few drifts with no fish we changed into scup mode and caught the heck out of them, limits for all. The bonus of it was that while scup fishing we would occasionally get blitzes by a bass or two. The pool fish, caught by Tony D. was close to a 20 bass caught on his porgy rig, he caught one keeper jigging and 3 keeper bass while porgy fishing, ORL. We also saw some fluke while on the hook as well and a couple of blues.

Fishing is getting red hot so come on out

Beautiful day out there today. Our 7-11 trip saw great porgy fishing, quickly getting our limit and then switched gears to fluke and put together some good action on the shorts with a fair amount of keepers with James Oh of the jersey boys fishing club leading the way with his limit of nice fat fluke. Pool fish was about 5 lbs

Then on our 12-4 we used that extra horsepower we have and burned down the beach a ways to fish where we've been getting some real nice fluke and the speed paid off. Had countless short action and over twenty keepers with the pool fish at over 6lbs.

After fluking made a few bass drifts and put a good amount of them in the buckets with Nor'easter Joefin getting 3 keeper bass, ORL, along with his limit of fluke.

The 4:45 trip tonite was also very good. We started jigging and put a bunch of bass and some blues in the boat. When the tide let up we went porgy fishing and were able to catch a good amount of them as well

After a really tough morning with east wind, little to no porgies or fluke, the Port Jefferson fleet got on the Striped bass and smoked them! The Osprey V ended up with 45 keepers and threw back about 100 shorts! Tonight it was too hard to resist the call and everyone agreed that bass fishing seemed the way to go.

So far 22 keepers with just 6 fish away from our boat limit.

The worst of the worst conditions for the first few hours of the trip. Only a few shorts on the first few drifts.  Everyone was patient and waited for conditions to improve. Pretty good bite today, seems like the fish are starting to chew as the water temps start to drop. Had a few limits, a few with 2 or 3, I think most if not all had 1 at least. Hoping things bust open after this blow. Not a bad day at all, Couldn't beat the weather and the company

Last day of porgies.  They were either a lot of fish on some drops but not the size we wanted or there were the size but not enough of them. High hook was about 20 scup.
We made 3 drops for blackfish which produced about 20 nice tog and a bunch of shorts and short sea bass. The Blackfish are starting to bite! Sailing daily 7am for blackfish!

Got a call from Captain Amanda who is out with the Osprey IV. She started out locally catching some surface blues in the 3-5 lb range. Lots lost at the surface but several people already have close to their limit. Starting to see some stripers showing up as well. They are on their way out to the middle to catch some of the larger fish. Fish up to 12 lbs caught yesterday.

Yesterdays porgy trip sadly fell a little flat but we picked our selves right back up today and had a consistent pick of fish all day which ended in almost everyone limiting out. High hook was about 50. Low hook was about 35. A bunch of blues were also caught in the 2-10lb range.

Sailing daily 7am-3pm

afternoons  4:30pm-dark

Starting very soon on the osprey IV 8am-2pm blue fish and bass trips and again at 4pm-8pm Monday-Wednesday-Friday-Sat-Sun. It will be a mix of jigging and chunking. Reservations a must!

This week started out for me on a slow note. Mondays 7am trip was great weather and great people but slow fishing. We had a tough morning on porgies only putting a few in the boat. After waiting for some tide we finally got a pick of fish and ground it making some long drifts on rocky bottom. We tried to anchor and chum but the fish never really settled in one spot. We ended up with 120 fish. Not a horrible day but def. Not a a sign of what was to come for the rest of the week.

Monday-4:45 - 1 spot wonder. Everyone had there limit of giant porgies by half way through he trip. After we caught put porgies we went jigging and had a few really good drifts on the blues.

Tuesday 7 am- first two spots we had some shots of good size fish. Got about half way to our limit and fished up at the third spot. After our porgy limit was reached we did a little jigging but only caught a few.

Tuesday- 4:45- Captain J.P. Puts another full boat limit in the boat fallowed by good jigging.

Wednesday 8am charter- 33 passengers. 230 porgy's in the boat with 50% being 2lb fish or better. They wanted to try a little jigging so half way through the trip we switched and jigged a handful of cock tail blus.

Wednesday 4:45- mix of bluefish and porgy's not sure if it was a full boat limit but it was a fun relaxes atmosphere and those who stayed focused got there limits and some blues and others came really close.

Thursday- 17 pass limited out on porgies by 9:15. Switched to the jigs but it was so hot and we only has a a few people so we went chunking. It was a killer bite. All the blues 6-12lbs. Absolutely nuts. Me, jeff and Travis didn't even get a min. To stop. Great trip looking forward to get out there again!

Thursday- non stop fishing with a full boat limit on scup.

Not sailing tonight because of weather but hopefully this passes quick and we can get out there again.

Been kind of lacking on the reports lately, summers flying by and been real busy. porgy fishing is starting to heat up, at or near a full boat limit this morning, started slow today but found the hungry ones late in the morning and finished strong.

Tonight had middle island fire department charter, started out jogging with not much to show, then did some scupping and picked at them then went back to jigging for sunset and whacked the blues on a drift that was half a mile long

Wednesday night got a quick limit on the scup then targeted the sea bass, getting a handful and finished the night with a bunch of blues on the bottom fishing rigs

Tuesday night started a little slow with slim pickin's at a few spots but they chewed their little faces off into the sunset for an almost boat limit

Things are starting to shape up beautifully for the fall run

Monday-Friday 7 am to 2 pm

Saturday, Sunday and holidays 7-11, 12-4

After we were done Porgy fishing we tied on the jigs and were very successful. We jigged up about 80 cocktail blues or so. Pool winner was 12 year old Derek Tooker from baiting hallow with a 4lb blue.

After we caught our limit of porgy's we went diamond jigging and jigged up a few nice cocktail blues.

Just talked to Capt J.P. Who ran the Boat today. He reported was a little slower but still had some nice size fish 1-2lbs. There was a 9 ft tide and it was blowing out of the east so drifting for them wasn't really an option and at anchor alot of lead was used. Ended up with about 60 scup.

jigging was amazing! Nice mix size of fish.100 blue fish in the 2-8lb range. Short bass too!!

Today started out a little on the slow side and ended a little on the slow side but right in the middle it was Great!
By noon we had our limit of porgies. Some medium some jumbo and shorts were caught in between.

We switched to blue fish and just missed the good bite. We Hooked a few but it wasn't the slaughter fishing it's been but they haven't left! They are still here.

High hook was between Rev Glenn from Shirley and Jim from Mastic. Both had around 30 porgies each. (ROL)
Jim also caught a birthday fish a 4lb fluke!
Pool winner was Vinny Cami  from Coram with a 6 1/2lb blue!

It's getting better and better!
please call ahead and make a reservation.

Can't ask for much more than having a day like today! The water was like glass, the weather was cooler than it's been and the fish were very hungry!

We started out
porgy fishing drifting in some deep water picking some nice 2lb porgies. Enough action the keep us busy for a while. As the tide eased we anchored up on a piece where we caught a handful of GAINT porgies and about 25 beautiful big sea bass.

Switched to
blue fish with the out going water and destroyed them for about an hour.  Had our buckets full of blue fish about 2-4lbs and went back to porgies.

Porgy action for the rest of the trip was killer! we finished up our limit of scup and went home!

Superstar today was 10 year old Sara from rocky point who had caught over 18 fish her self and showed up Pop-Pop! You go girl!

Pool Fish was a 4lb blue caught by Joe A.

Great time to get out there the fish are biting!

Have the Suffolk county bar association on the boat today. A wonderful group of people whom I hAve had the pleasure of taking out for the past few years. After having some what of a slow trip last year we are making up for it big time.

Started the day
porgy fishing. We drifted in the morning and caught some real big sea bass and porgies put about 60 in the boat when I got a call from Captain Des who said he was slaying the blues just south of me. So I started up the engines and we having been slaughtering the blues for the past couple hours. Nice cocktail size.

We are currently taking a lunch break as requested and will resume porgy fishing in a half hour.

I would like to thank the SCBA for the loyalty and good spirits year after year and always making it a great trip. And thanks Des for the team work as always.

As usual the Porgies did a disappearing act the beginning of July. I am always reluctant to post that they have returned unless I am really sure. The last three 4:45 pm porgy trips could be called good, better and great! So after three trips, I think it is safe to say, Porgies are back!

So if you want to share in the fun, come on down plenty of room on the boat to do some great fishing.

Most people averaged 20 to 40 fish on the day with the pool going to jackson Winston marlboro with a fish just shy of 8lbs. Great action all day.

Sorry for the lack of reports lately, holiday weekends are killers. The weekend Saturday was solid with the noon trip being very good. Sunday was solid but not as good as Saturday. Both days caught endless jumbo shorts but Saturday had more of the mammoth keepers

Monday started as a pick on the keepers with endless jumbo shorts. Had about twenty keepers on the boat in the afternoon when the tide changed and it busted wide open, got around 30 keepers or so in the last hour and a half to finish with 50+ keepers on the day

Tuesday had the day off but was told the charter we had did well on the catching but the keeping was a little slow

Today we got a full boat limit for a light crowd, high hook was four keepers with Artie winning the pool with a 5lbr, ROL

June 25, 2010     Banner ridiculous insane great savage no joke porgy fishing!!
Had a wonderful trip last night with the gang from Huntington hospital. It was amazing fishing. 45 min after start of fishing we had our boat limit of large to jumbo porgies. (650) we spent the rest of the trip as a cruise taking a tour of smith town bay. Jon, Jimmy the bucket, Michael, and myself cleaned and bagged porgies for the next 3 hours.

I would like to thank Susan and Capt Jon Trotter for organizing such a nice night on the water and the rest of the Huntington hospital for making it such a nice night!

With the giant school of porgies I see this fishing holding up for quite some time!

With this amazing fishing we have we will be spending some time porgy fishing on all half day trips.

Worked deck today Capt J.P. at the wheel. Fluking was very good on the am trip around 300 shorts 18 keepers. The shorts were around 17-20 1/2 inches. They are FAT!!

Don won the pool with a 5.4lb fish. The fish was the size a 4lber but just like yesterday pool fish it was thick. Tom had a scale with him with so we weighed it up!! Congrats to ten year old Dillion who won the contest between him and his two friends on who would catch the most. He landed on top with 21 fluke! Not to shabby for his first time fluking!

Porgy fishing tonight was off. We were reading plenty of fish under the boat but just couldn't get them to chew good. It was just one of those nights. Beautiful night with wonder full people makes a great night anytime. Thank you guys for a nice night on the water :).

I don't even know the best way to describe the porgy fishing right now with out sounding like I'm a big liar. Capt Chris from the Celtic Quest and I were discussing the monster porgy's we are catching in Port Jefferson, the bottom is paved with fish 30 feet off the bottom! He summed it up in one word "EPIC". These are the days I will experience and be able to say "remember when..."

Tonight trip is almost over we have limited out with out a problem most of the fish that went back were legal keepers size but anglers had already achieved there new York state limit. This is to the bottom you got um fishing! We are trying diamond jigging now for a change of pace since not even half way through the trip we weren't aloud to keep anymore.

I'll post later to let you know what lucky angler won the 10 free trips with the biggest porgy tonight.

9 am - 2pm trip today. Got off the dock late about 9:45. First couple fluke drifts were very good. 100-150 shorts. 7 keepers. Lost the tide. Tried to jig some surface blues. They were not very cooperative.  Switched back to fluke and caught a few more keepers b4 we had to go home. Ended up with 12 keepers and a handful of blues.

June 2, 2010
Great fishing in the am! First half of the trip was just sick fishing. Some anglers compared it to porgy fishing. One after another flew into the boat. Several keepers in the mix. A ton of heart breakers 20-20 1/2 inch fish. The second half of the day slowed down compared to the first. Lots of laughter and good conversation filled any of the lows through out the day. The fish are big fat and healthy! High hook was about Jerry who had about 30 fish. Ended up with 15 for the day.

4:45 trip- on the way out we saw some blues busting. Everyone agreed it looked to good to pass up. It was. We could have kept out limit but 15 blues is a lot so everyone kept what they could eat and through the rest back. George T. Even caught a keeper bass! Weighed in at About 15lbs. We even jigged up a bunch of scup! Switched back over to fluke and in the short time we fished we landed 9 keepers and a few shorts. Congrats to Brain who limit on in one shot! Double header keeper!!! First one of the season. 6lb on top and 22 inch on the bottom!!

Full Boat Limit Again!!
Twisted my ankle on last nights trip and was convinced that I would be ok. At 5 am still not better so I had to miss another killer fluke day. Gave Captain James a call around 10 am and already was well on his was to limiting out. High hook was Bill with 6 keepers. ( only retained limit) Most anglers had 15-20 shorts. They had our limit for customers by 11am and full boat limit by 12. Pool fish was once again Bob Collins 5 1/2lber. Way to go bob! I'm going to take advantage of not being and to walk and I'm going fishing.

A beautiful day on the  OSPREY IV, with Capt JP at the helm and Travis working deck. 14 fares managed 25 keepers with the pool going to Bob with a 6+ flattie. There were well over 200 shorts many in the 20"+ range. Picked a few 1-2 lb Cocktails, the good eatin' kind. Gorgeous day, flat seas and it is looking just as good for tomorrow. Sailed today with 31 passengers. Started out the day with a bang nice size keepers on the first drift with alot of action. Most of the outgoing tide produced action with keepers in the mix. It died off where we were due to lack of tide so headed back WEST for the incoming tide. Picked some nice sized fluke along the edges of the shoal. Ended the day with 28 keepers and over 100 jumbo shorts.

Sailed last night on the 4:30 fluke with 13 fares. Trip started out slow sw wind with outgoing tide created a real fast drift. Despite not great conditions it was a nice steady pick of keepers. Including Malike with a 8.5lber and Caitlin with a 6lber. It was Malike and Caitlins first time fluking! Around 7 o'clock the drift slowed down the short action picked up along with a bunch more keepers. Trip total was 16 keepers for the night.

Bucktailing still worked best and pink and white caught the bigger fish.

Calm winds and hungry fluke-Now thats the way to start the season. The Osprey V made her maiden voyage with Capt James at the helm. Lots of action with the not so short shorts, and about 15 or so keepers.

Capt Amanda was at the helm on the 4:30 trip. She had similar results. There is an abundence of sand eels, more so then past years which should ensure some great fishing. It's more fun to experience this then read about it. Come on down sailing at 7am daily.
